Craniosacral Therapy during pregnancy

Craniosacral Therapy can be very helpful during pregnancy and after birth to support mums and babies, both physically and emotionally, during one of the most significant experiences of their lives.

Craniosacral during pregnancy:

  • Can relieve physical symptoms that will allow you to feel more comfortable during the whole pregnancy

  • Provides a space for you to be held and experience your pregnancy as a sacred time in which you can most intimately connect with yourself and your baby

  • Being heard deeply in a session can help you better understand what you need and relax into what you want your birth experience to be

  • Help you process physical and emotional issues from your own birth trauma or from previously giving birth, in a way that leaves space for the new pregnancy and birth to be experienced differently.

Parents commonly bring their baby for Craniosacral Therapy in the first weeks following birth. Craniosacral therapy helps to balance and release physical and emotional holdings or restrictions that may be present after the birth. These holdings or restrictions can lead to various problems in the newborn baby. The baby’s mother and/or father will be included in the session and as the baby responds to treatment, this shared experience can deepen the bonds within the new family.

Babies can have much to share with us about what it was like for them to make their epic journey into life. Cranial Sacral healing supports integration through deep listening, empathy and very gentle touch, allowing baby to tell her story and release what is held in her system.

This healing work helps if your baby is:

  • Fussy or colicky

  • Having digestive issues

  • Crying a lot or crying inconsolably (this is trauma crying)

  • Having feeding or sleeping issues

  • Unable to settle

  • Uncomfortable in his/her body

  • Suffering from stress or trauma

  • Grieving a loss (prenatal bereavement, separation after birth, twin loss, etc.)

  • Unable to relax and rest deeply

  • Disconnected (not attaching fully, not present in their eyes/body)

  • Challenged by a stressful womb or birth experience (cesarean section, induction, other medical interventions, long or short labor, etc.)

When infants get help early they are supported to reach their full potential and are able to meet life feeling integrated and embodied, with a fully functional nervous system.

Craniosacral Therapy  for babies

Children of all ages can benefit from Craniosacral Therapy. It provides a nurturing and calming approach to childhood healthcare. Many common behavioural, social and learning difficulties respond well to Craniosacral Therapy. The treatment process is gentle and supportive to the physical and emotional needs of the individual child.
